In the Budget last week, The Chancellor announced an increase in the threshold for business rates relief from £12,000 to £18,000, meaning thousands of businesses in England will no longer be liable for business rates.
This is exactly the kind of ambition we need to support our local businesses. I will be pressing the Welsh Government to use the consequential payments they will receive to enact a similar scheme in Wales.
Businesses our side of the border deserve the same support and drive that those 5 miles away in England will be receiving.

🎆 Important news on fireworks! Let's keep it safe for everyone🐾
Most people enjoy fireworks responsibly, but I’ve heard from many constituents in Wrexham worried about the impact on pets, veterans and vulnerable neighbours, and I share those concerns.
Earlier this month, the Government closed the largest consultation into fireworks legislation since it was first introduced - from limiting noisier fireworks use by the public to reviewing lower-risk fireworks.
I welcome the Government’s work with charities and businesses, and I’ll keep raising constituents’ concerns.
I will keep those of you who have contacted me on this issue updated once the outcome of the consultation is published, along with the Government's proposed actions.

In the meantime, some advice below on keeping fireworks fun and safe for everyone:
🐶 Walk dogs before dark, keep pets indoors, close
curtains and give them a quiet place to hide
🏘️ Planning a display? Let your neighbours know
🎇 Organised displays are often the safest option
✅ Only buy from licensed sellers, and no fireworks
between 11pm and 7am (midnight on Bonfire Night)
