Wrexham came to the Houses of Parliament this week with the Wrexham Showcase event organised by local MP Andrew Ranger.
This was an opportunity to show what Wrexham has to offer as well as a chance to network and build partnerships. The event was a collaboration with the Wrecsam 2029 UK City of Culture bid and sponsored by two big Wrexham employers, Kellogg’s and Syensqo.
With an exciting summer ahead in terms of new attractions in Wrexham, it was a chance for tourism to show what Wrexham has to offer with representations from This is Wrecsam and Stori Brymbo. Looking to the future and young people also saw Coleg Cambria, Wrexham University, Darogan and We Mind the Gap in attendance as well as employment opportunities and the importance of advanced manufacturing through Syensqo, JCB, Hydro and Green Rock Manufacturing. Wrexham is of course an area which blends urban and rural with BASC explaining to visitors about the work that they do. Finally, the well-known Wrexham institutions were represented with Wrexham Lager, Wrexham AFC and Wrexham County Borough Council along with Ambition North Wales.
Keynote speaker Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens, who grew up in North East Wales spoke of how she has seen first-hand how the area has changed in recent years. She highlighted the role that UK Government investment is playing in that through initiatives like the Flintshire-Wrexham Investment Zone.
Wrexham has made the City of Culture long list after coming second to Bradford in 2025. The City of Culture has never been in Wales or Scotland, and the successful city will be announced by January 2027.
Event organiser Andrew Ranger MP said,
“Bringing Wrexham to Westminster was an opportunity that I couldn’t miss. The atmosphere in the room was incredible, and the attendance showed just how much we have to offer in Wrexham and also how interested people are in the story of our city. We are really going places and taking people with us on that journey is so important.”
Amanda Evans, City of Culture Bid Director explained,
“It was so great to see so many people attend such a fantastic event, it shows the partnerships that we have in Wrexham and helps us to show the ambition that we have. The organisations who have joined us today are just a piece of the story of Wrexham and it’s great to showcase that in London. Culture, genuinely, it’s all of our lives. What we want to do now is to give the people of Wrexham and visitors to Wrexham more to do, more to see, and more to be proud of.”
Ben Moore, UK Country Director, Syensqo, one of the event sponsors added,
“Syensqo was immensely proud to sponsor this event. Our business has been manufacturing advanced materials in Wrexham for over 40 years and the showcase was fantastic opportunity to meet and network with many other businesses and organisations in the Wrexham area. It was a true celebration of all that is Wrexham. Absolutely loved it!”
Donna Jenkins, Project Lead, Kellogg’s Wrexham concluded,
“I was very proud to represent Kellogg’s in Parliament this week, showcasing the best of our city. We’ve invested £75m into our Wrexham plant as a major commitment to cereal production in the UK. It is also a huge investment in our people, creating at least 130 new jobs. We look forward to making Wrexham the home of our cereal production for many generations to come and playing our part in the city’s growth.”
