Statement: WASPI Decision- 30th January 2026
Yesterday the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions updated MPs about whether the Government would implement the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsmanā€™s compensation recommendations for WASPI women. The Government had agreed to reconsider this and I had hoped this reconsideration announced yesterday would result in a decision aligned with the PHSOā€™s findings.
The Government have chosen not to accept the PHSOā€™s findings which begs the question of the purpose of the Ombudsman as their function is to investigate complaints about government, public organisations and the NHS.
I completely understand the disappointment that will be felt today from the women who have been fighting for many years. The campaign of WASPI women has always been one that I have fully supported both in my time as MP and beforehand. I have met with campaigners, showed public support wherever I could and never shied away from raising this injustice.
I have met with WASPI women from our constituency many times to talk about this issue. There are approximately 4150 women in Wrexham who have been affected by this issue, and I will continue to engage with them and help with their campaign.
