Statement: Oak Alyn Hall – 19th January 2026
I have had numerous representations from concerned people in the community about the planning application for a change of use for the former care home Oak Alyn Hall in Sydallt. The application is for a change of use to a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) and I share the concerns of the local community as I do not believe this is the appropriate location for an HMO. The change of use would have significant potential impact on the small community in terms of services and infrastructure as well as additional pressure on services in the wider area. It is also not the right place for the residents of an HMO – for the same reasons- they will need access to services, infrastructure and transport that simply aren’t there.
This is a serious matter for the community in Sydallt and needs to be treated as such. I am disturbed by the actions of some around this who are using it for personal gain rather than putting the community first with irresponsible posts on social media.
I will continue to work with and support the community and local councillor as I have been doing, to ensure their representations are heard.
