July has been a busy month of events in Wrexham. The summer always brings carnivals and fetes and it was great to see the return of Wrexham City Carnival in Bellevue Park as well as Wrexham Pride with its parade and stalls on Llwyn Isaf.

The King’s Trust have supported young people in Wrexham to complete a ‘Get into Lifeguarding’ course with Freedom Leisure. It was brilliant to present them with their certificates and to celebrate their success.

At my Voice of Wrexham event on Personal Independence Payment (PIP), I heard from Caia Park Partnership, Contact Cymru, Headway, the Salvation Army, and Citizens Advice who shared their experiences of supporting people with their PIP applications. These insights were invaluable along with their suggestions for how the system could be improved. These have now been submitted to the UK Government’s Timms Review and the report will be published in the Autumn.

My visit to the Ambulance and Fire Services Resource Centre on Croesnewydd Road was a chance to understand how the nature of the Fire and Rescue has changed and to talk about the plans for Hwb Awen, the new Training centre.

And finally, the beautiful Minera Quarry has 3 new marked trails for everyone to enjoy. I spent a lovely afternoon meeting volunteers and exploring the landscape, it really is a beautiful part of our area where nature has reclaimed the industrial past.
