Yesterday, I was delighted to hear that the UK Government announced everyone over the State Pension age in England and Wales with an income of, or below, £35,000 a year will receive the Winter Fuel Payment this winter.
Many of you contacted me last year with concerns about the changes to the Winter Fuel Payment and I have always maintained that the threshold needed to be raised, something which I raised in meetings with ministers. I am glad that the Government has taken concerns seriously and made this crucial change.
In Wrexham, I held several surgeries in the Autumn along with Citizens Advice and Age Concern to help constituents check their eligibility and apply for pension credit as they believed they were not eligible. My office has handled many cases where we have supported constituents in this.
I would urge constituents to keep checking their eligibility for Pension Credits and take it up when applicable.
The change announced by the Government will be applied automatically, you don’t need to take any action.
However, if you have any questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to contact my office on 01978 788854 or [email protected]
