For immediate release:
Wrexham MP continues efforts to improve hospital parking at Wrexham Maelor.
Andrew Ranger MP has convened the latest meeting with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), Llais and Wrexham County Borough Council (WCBC) regarding parking at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
This follows the Wrexham MP’s Voice of Wrexham event in November 2025 and the first meeting of the group following this in February this year.
Those attending the meeting last week were updated about a separate meeting between BCUHB and Wrexham AFC. BCUHB reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners and will also be meeting separately with WCBC.
BCUHB has included parking as part of its Integrated Medium-Term Plan for 2026-29 reflecting the need for a common approach across the health board area in terms of parking for staff and patients. Furthermore, the meeting noted that a Wales wide approach to this could be a consideration in the next Senedd term.
The Wrexham Gateway and ongoing developments across the city mean that that the parking solutions and use of public transport require a common and shared approach beyond the understandable concerns about the hospital site.
BCUHB are looking into suggestions as to where a park and ride or park and walk service might be established, as well as exploring existing site management. The importance of partnership working therefore is crucial here. There is a general acceptance that use of technology will need to be part a solution in the future. However, any developments present a funding challenge which the health board will be raising with Welsh Government after the May election.”
Andrew Ranger MP said, “I am pleased to see the ongoing progress with the parking issues at Wrexham Maelor. I am grateful to all parties for their continued involvement and willingness to look at different solutions as well as considering the wider situation of parking across Wrexham.”
The next meeting will be held in early June due to the Senedd election and the discussion of parking at the next BCUHB Executive Board meeting in May.
