The opening of CanfodAu at Wrexham University marks an important step for Wrexham and North Wales in advanced manufacturing, green technology, and industry-led research and development. CanfodAu is a centre for Ā cutting-edge work in these sectors and contains specialist laboratories and workspaces focused on areas such as composite materials, automation, low-carbon propulsion, and digital design.
Decarbonisation and industrial transformation are so important to Wrexham and North Wales as a whole. Supporting research and development by equipping local businesses and enterprises with the tools, expertise, and infrastructure is a key part of CanfodAu’s work. It will see the creation of up to 94 new jobs and generate Ā£88 million in additional gross value
CanfodAu was delivered through the North Wales Growth Deal and funded jointly by the UK and Welsh governments and is a fantastic example of partnership working. It also marks an important next phase for Wrexham University in its aim to be a world-leading, modern civic university.
I was delighted to attend the opening last week at the invitation of the Vice Chancellor Professor Joe Yates, alongside Lesley Griffiths MS, Jack Sargeant MS, Cllr Mark Pritchard, Chief Executive of WCBC Alwyn Jones and our Mayor Tina Mannering.
