Wrexham MP delighted with extra £1.5 million from UK Government

Earlier this year, it was announced that Wrexham would receive £20 million as part of the UK Government’s “Plan for Neighbourhoods”. Now, Andrew Ranger MP has also secured a further £1.5 million for Wrexham County Borough for “Pride in Place”. The idea is to improve public spaces, which could include fixing broken bus shelters, reopening park toilets, more bins to help stop litter and revamping run-down leisure centres.

This new money will be allocated to Wrexham County Borough Council and can be used anywhere across the county borough. This announcement scales up the work already underway, helping communities regenerate and restoring local pride.

Mr Ranger said, “This money is not just for the city centre. Perhaps you live in Gwersyllt and would like to see upgrades to Gwyn Evans Leisure Centre which residents have raised with me, or in Pentre Broughton where Black Lane school pupils told me that their park needed improvement and new play equipment. There are plenty of potential projects out there where the money could be spent.”

This new investment builds on previous UK Government announcements and takes the total money from these funds for communities across Wales to over £300 million. This is on top of the work done by the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns and Placemaking Initiatives. This is more evidence of 2 Labour governments working together to fund and support Wales properly after years of underinvestment.

Andrew Ranger MP added, “We all want Wrexham to thrive. I really want to see an accessible Wrexham, a focus on community and improvement in our environment. This money is one of the ways that we can make this happen.”
