I am deeply concerned about the welfare of those on board the Sumud Flotilla carrying aid to Gaza, including my constituent Nadia. There are reports that Israeli forces have intercepted 39 boats, in what must be an extremely terrifying and worrying situation for all concerned.
The Foreign Office have released a statement, which says: “We are very concerned about the situation with the Sumud flotilla. We are in touch with the families of a number of British nationals involved. The aid carried by the flotilla should be turned over to humanitarian organisations on the ground to be delivered safely into Gaza.”
I have co-signed a letter to the Foreign Secretary last week from my colleague Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP which asks the Israeli Government to ensure the safety and security of those on board the flotilla.
This is obviously a live, ongoing situation which I am monitoring closely and I have contacted the Foreign Office for an urgent update.
