Black Lane Primary School’s breakfast club has been recognised nationally after winning the Best Breakfast Club in Wales at the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards at the Houses of Parliament. Breakfast clubs provide opportunities for volunteering and leadership which will help the children’s development and futures. They enable interaction between different year groups, helping to support those social skills and interactions which are so important. There is so much innovative practice out there.
I was delighted to host the awards and acknowledge the brilliant work taking place at Black Lane and other schools. Huge congratulations to them and also to Ysgol Bryn Alyn who wereĀ shortlisted as finalists.
Nationally there were over 500 nominations which is an incredible reflection of the work going into breakfast clubs across the UK thanks to teachers and support staff in our schools. Research including by the British Nutrition Foundation shows the importance of breakfast to health, educational attainment and wellbeing as well as supporting parents and carers who rely on these clubs for childcare.
