The BBC is a UK institution and internationally respected broadcaster. The resignations we have seen were necessary as a result of poor judgement and editorial mistakes at the BBC.
But there are serious questions to be asked as to why managers and directors were prevented from responding quickly and properly to complaints made. Who prevented this and why? What are their motivations for doing so? In a time of increasing misinformation and disinformation, the thousands of hours of high quality impartial journalistic content produced by the BBC is more important than ever – and it needs to be preserved and protected.
